(Photo by Apichit Jinakul)Fraud in paddy storage for the rice-pledging scheme in the lower North has caused more than 90 billion baht in damages, says the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC). The PACC has brought charges against the storage supervisor, rice surveyors and rice quality examiners for malfeasance, falsification of documents and collusion in the offence. "In the jurisdiction of the PACC's Area 6 office, there are 506 cases (of fraud in the rice scheme), with damages exceeding 90 billion baht," said Mr Prayong. Shin Thanasap warehouse was contracted to keep 290,000 rice sacks, with 40,000-50,000 having been discharged from storage. Damage caused at the Shin Thanasap warehouse alone was estimated at 800 million baht, said the source.
